It's your first day

Walking into your first jiu jitsu class can feel intimidating. Maybe you're wondering, am I too old? Out of shape? What if I have no idea what I'm doing? At Big Break Jiu-Jitsu, we've built a space where beginners feel supported from the moment they walk in. Here's exactly what your first class looks like. We ask that you arrive ten to fifteen minutes early. If you haven't filled out your waiver yet, we take care of that then. Then we'll fit you with a loaner gi and belt, so no shopping required. You'll get introduced to everyone. Our community takes pride in helping new folks succeed. When class begins, we'll explain the warm-ups. They aren't random exercises, they're movements you'll use throughout your jiu-jitsu journey, like hip escapes or guard recovery. Each new student is paired with an experienced higher belt whose job is to guide you. not overwhelm you, just help you feel comfortable learning. Then we'll move into techniques, one at a time, drilling each for several minutes. Throughout the class, David and Samantha will walk around to answer questions and give feedback. After techniques, we do positional sparring. Think of it as focused practice from a specific spot, not a free for all. Live rolling comes after that and here's the important part. It's always your choice. You can join, continue positional work, watch, or ask questions. No pressure, period. We end class lined up, answer any questions, bow out and shake hands with everyone. Afterward, mats are open for those who wanna keep rolling. And if you've got questions, whether about training or memberships, we're right there to help. Your first class isn't about proving anything, it's about trying something new in a welcoming space. If you've been thinking about it, we'd love to meet you. Ready to step onto the mats?
